Community Connections

By Kris Bella

“There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work toward the same goals.” ― Idowu Koyenikan

In celebrating Arte Soleil’s one year anniversary, Pete and I knew we needed to bring neighbors together, to honor our community, to thank all of the people who have supported us on our journey, to make new friends, to entertain, to showcase, to connect! We decided to throw a Block Party.

We had free food for everyone who attended which was generously donated by Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association, Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association, Lents Gilbert Church, and Local Grocer. We had music all day with over 15 performers. We had art demonstrations by local artists. We had games. We had Free Arts NW Mobile Art Studio offering free arts activities. We had face painting. We had free door prizes throughout the afternoon provided by many of our Creatives who also volunteered their time to a make the day a success. And to top it all off, we contributed a brand new mural to East Portland. She is a beauty.

There is so much gratitude. We wouldn’t be able to do what we are doing without all of you! Thank you.

Here is what community looks like to us…
